The Association of Palm Producers of Monte Alegre Neshuya (APROMAN) has made significant progress by becoming the first group of small independent producers in Peru to achieve eligibility for certification by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). This achievement reflects the commitment of Peruvian producers to sustainability and the highest international standards in palm oil production.
This progress has been possible thanks to the Sustainable Palm program, a joint initiative between Alicorp, Solidaridad and NES Naturaleza, which has provided small producers with the tools, training and support necessary to transform their agricultural practices into sustainable and responsible models. In addition, the program has prioritized the inclusion of young people and women in the supply chain, promoting equity and inclusive development in the communities.
“Implementing sustainable practices within our supply chain has been a firm commitment, aligned with our purpose of ‘Feeding a better tomorrow’, and is especially relevant in a sector such as the palm oil sector, where it has a direct impact on the economy and well-being of small farmers,” said Ian Nightingale, Corporate Manager of Sustainable Development at Alicorp.
The use of traceability tools has been fundamental in this process, going from being a challenge to becoming a key tool of trust for producers. This has allowed APROMAN to advance in the implementation of RSPO regulations, getting ever closer to definitive certification.
Looking ahead, APROMAN, together with the Sustainable Palm program, has the goal of achieving Milestone A certification for small independent producers by 2025. It will also continue working to scale up the technical assistance model and certify more small producers, thereby consolidating Peru's leadership in the responsible production of palm oil.
